The philosophy
of the ministry from which we operate is described by the phrase:
from the Church, to the Church, for the Church, and under the Church.
That is to say, we never go where we have not been invited by a
local fellowship, or most often and preferably by a group of churches
in a city or region. The ministry is primarily directed to Christians,
as revival presupposes life. You have to be "vived" before
you can be "revived." While ministering in a given location
we are always under the authority of the local pastoral leaders,
as they are the initiators of the ministry invitation.
Over the four
years of the Center's existence differing types of ministry have
been conducted to assist Churches to prepare for revival. Preaching
crusades, where numerous churches come together for revival meetings;
pastor's retreats; citywide seminars; mobilizing Christians from
different theologies and ethnic groups to come together to love
their city through some activity... all of these and more have been
used.
One strategy,
which seems to work well, is to return to certain cities and regions
on a repeated basis. The account of what
happened in Ottumwa illustrates this point, as this was our
sixth time to be in this city.
